Six Solo Instruments
This solo instruments collection of two violins, one viola,
two cellos and one double bass is based on our extremely successful Collections
VI Solo Strings I, Solo Violin 2 and Solo Cello 2,
offering a completely overhauled sample database that’s optimized for the Vienna Synchron Player.
Our goal was to improve each instrument’s playability and realism even more,
which we achieved by enhancing the sample recordings
as well as by utilizing the Synchron Player’s unique features.​

as the original VI Solo Strings I,
with a clearly laid out and color coded structure in the Synchron Player
for a great overview and quick access to the vast choice of playing techniques.​

Heightened Flexibility and Authenticity
One of the major improvements is made possible by the Synchron Player’s time-stretch feature.
Now you can change vibrato speed in real-time using a MIDI controller!
Real-time time-stretching also allows you to change the speed
of tremolos, trills, portamentos and glissandos
by assigning a CC controller to the Synchron Player’s “Stretch Factor” fader.
You can even speed up or slow down scale runs
while they’re playing back or automatically sync them to the host tempo!​

Harnessing the Synchron Player’s new release sample technology
and adding a variety of optimized release sounds
to a lot of articulations greatly increases their range of use.
Short notes ring out authentically depending on the body resonance and the note’s volume.
Long and medium length notes such as détaché, portato, crescendos and diminuendos
can be played shorter than their recorded length
and are still automatically provided with authentic release sounds.
This way, for instance, you can use the first part of crescendo notes as soft portato articulations,
or the first part of diminuendo notes as an espressivo technique
with a slight decrescendo that sounds very musical and natural.​

The meticulously balanced volume levels of the entire sample database
allow for seamless note transitions when moving from one playing technique to the next.
Velocity crossfading has been further optimized for extra-smooth volume changes.
Many articulations are now available as looped notes
such as sustains (with and without vibrato), trills, tremolos and more.
Unlooped legatos are still available
and demonstrate the natural musicality of each beautifully articulated target note
as performed by the musician.​

The reverberation and placement presets created by Synchron Stage sound engineers
combine customized impulse responses and Vienna MIR technology
with expertly crafted reverb settings for each instrument
so they are placed perfectly in the large hall of Synchron Stage Vienna,
one of the world's best sounding scoring stages.
You can also turn off the player’s convolution reverb and algorithmic reverb
and place the dry samples in any other environment.
By adding the ambience of Synchron Stage Vienna’s Stage A to the dry samples in real-time,
SYNCHRON-ized Solo Strings perfectly blend with any other product of our Synchron Series,
resulting in a production-ready sound “out of the box”.​

This Collection is the sequel to SYNCHRON-ized Solo Strings,
featuring the instruments first violin, second violin,
viola, cello and bass played “con sordino”.​

Mutes reduce the transmission of energy from the strings to the body of the instrument,

Only specially crafted mutes have been used for the recordings
in order to perfectly fit to the bridge of each instrument,
and to achieve a homogenous sound across all players.​

The instruments were recorded in our second studio, the Silent Stage,

This way they perfectly blend with any other product of the Synchron Series,

By turning off the internal convolution and algorithmic reverb of the Vienna Synchron Player
the players can be placed in any virtual acoustic environment,
from living rooms to concert halls,
from the authentic natural rooms provided by Vienna MIR Pro 3D
to artificial reverb and delay effects.​

Our team of sound editors recreated a perfectly balanced and pristine-sounding sample database.
The meticulously balanced volume levels of the recordings guarantee seamless note transitions
when moving from one articulation to the next.

All legato transitions have been considerably improved,
and the new release sample technology greatly increases the flexibility and usability of many articulations.
Notes such as détachés, fortepianos, crescendos and diminuendos
can be played at various lengths and always trigger the correct release sounds.
This way, for instance, you can use the first part of crescendo notes as soft portato articulations,
or the first part of diminuendo notes as an espressivo technique
with a slight decrescendo that sounds very musical and natural.​

our sound editors went back to the raw, unprocessed sample data of the Chamber Strings I Collection.
The original recordings were completely re-edited and re-mastered
in order to achieve an all-new, modern chamber string sound
that excels in terms of aesthetics, playability and realism,
and that is optimized for use alongside the Synchron Series instruments.
What’s more, we even added new velocity layers to the previously available legato articulations,
such as “molto espressivo forte” variations.​

The perfectly engineered reverberation and placement presets combine customized impulse responses
with expertly crafted reverb settings for each group of the ensemble.
By adding the ambience of Synchron Stage Vienna’s Stage A to the dry samples in real-time,
SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings perfectly blend with any other product of our Synchron Series,
resulting in a production-ready sound “out of the box”.​

When editing and processing the raw Silent Stage recordings for use within the Vienna Synchron Player,
we paid utmost attention to achieving full compatibility
with the larger ensembles of Synchron Strings Pro and Synchron Strings I.
All articulations, and especially the velocities,
were meticulously balanced and adjusted for perfect matching,
making it easy to switch smoothly between different articulations
or to move seamlessly through non-vibrato and vibrato layers.
As a result, you may merge all string libraries
or instantly change a large string arrangement to a smaller one (and vice versa)
with SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings,
without the need to adjust and tweak your settings.​

In addition to the previously existing articulations of Appassionata Strings,
our editors added non-vibrato sustains,
legatos and portamentos for more versatile and flexible expressive options.
The team even managed to improve the already great sounding legato transitions.
What’s more, new sustains with very soft attacks allow for especially gentle beginnings of notes.
The volume levels of all articulations were completely overhauled
and provide perfectly balanced levels not only among the ensembles themselves,
but also in interaction with Synchron Strings I and SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings.​

The harpsichord has a famously bright sound with rich overtones.
Typically a Baroque instrument,

In modern literature, however, it has been rediscovered by a broad range of musicians,

This two manual instrument offers the choirs 8' solo, 8' double,
and tutti (a combination of two 8' choirs and one 4' choir).​

The harmonium is a free-reed instrument,
meaning that air streaming past reeds of different lengths causes them to vibrate.
Unlike organ pipes, the harmonium’s reeds produce more disharmonic overtones,
creating a unique, undulating sound.​

In the recording sessions, our team also articulated the Bösendorfer Imperial's strings
with their bare hands (e.g., for creating evocative glissandos)
and with wood mallets in order to achieve a multitude of fresh sounds and colors.​

The perfectly engineered reverberation and placement presets combine customized impulse responses
with expertly crafted reverb settings for each group of the ensemble.

SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings perfectly blend with any other product of our Synchron Series,
resulting in a production-ready sound “out of the box”.​

The unique instruments from our VI Elements Collection
have long been a trade secret for composers and sound designers,
capturing their imagination with its archaic sounds

For the SYNCHRON-ized version,
we have expanded the library’s breadth of sound,
not only by adding more extraordinary instruments,
but also by creating a host of other-worldly sonic effects
using the Synchron Player’s extensive plug-in and routing options.
New instruments include a second lithophone, another waterphone,
several tam-tams, rails, thunder sheets, crotales, ocean drums and many more.​

The sound sources of SYNCHRON-ized Elements comprise water (Waterphones),
metal (singing bowls, crotales, steel rails, tam-tams),
stone (lithophones), and glass (glass harmonica, verrophone, bottles).
With a variety of included mixer presets,
each instrument can be placed at nine different positions in the main hall of Synchron Stage Vienna
for a perfect, out-of-the-box sound.​

The Waterphone was invented by Richard Waters in 1967,
inspired by the African kalimba, the nail violin and the Tibetan water drum.
The instrument consists of a closed water-filled body of stainless steel
or bronze and a hollow-cylindrical neck.
Metal rods of different lengths are attached vertically around the neck
and are usually scraped with a bow.
The sound can be modified by pivoting the water-filled body.
Like the triangle and the piccolo,
the Waterphone’s high-frequency sound can be heard even when the entire orchestra is playing.
The Bass Waterphone is a particularly large model with a diameter of 35 cm (13 ¾ ").​

The glass harmonica was widely popular during Mozart's time.
Hemispherical glass bowls rotate around a horizontal axis driven by a pedal.
By putting wet fingers on the bowls as they turn they excite the glass into lovely ethereal tones.
The verrophone consists of chromatic glass tubes arranged vertically
like the resonator tubes of mallet instruments.
The glass tubes are rubbed with moistened fingers to create its unique sound.
The musical glasses are filled with varying amounts of water and rubbed with moistened fingers, too,
but their sound is much more delicate and shimmering compared to the verrophone.
The glass instruments are rounded out by bottles
that are blown with different techniques, including flutter tongue.​

The sounding stone bars of the lithophone are made of basalt, granite, marble and other minerals.
Lithophones were first introduced to the orchestra by Carl Orff (1895 - 1982) in his Greek drama “Antigone”.
The Grand Lithophone is a unique instrument
that looks like a marimba and has a tonal range of almost five octaves.
Due to the resonance tubes,
the tonal possibilities range from extremely soft,
full and dark tones to a hard and bright timbre.​

The metal category includes steel rails struck with a steel hammer,
thunder sheets in various sizes and playing techniques,
crotales and a set of Japanese singing bowls.
The series of tam-tams includes instruments with different diameters,
ranging from 85 cm to the 200 cm XXL tam-tam.
The latter was struck with metal rods, cardboard and jigsaw blades,
hit and rubbed with chains, and manhandled with fly swatters,
an egg cutter, and even a massaging rod.​

This library is based on the VI Single Instruments Upright Bass,

Our editors and engineers updated and re-edited all three instruments
to improve their ease-of-use and playability,
with the goal of enabling authentic performances as their first priority,
especially for playing these instruments on the keyboard.
Our team not only improved the sample database,
for example by optimizing all release sounds,
but also revised and further developed the Synchron Player’s Velocity Crossfade feature

Upright Bass
Upright Bass features recordings of a plucked bass with a variety of jazz playing techniques,
performed by Bernd Konzett,
a well-known jazz bassist from the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.
The articulations are played pizzicato and include staccatos,
portatos and sustains with various vibrato strengths, legatos, slow and fast glissandos,
repetitions, ghost notes as well as single, double and triple upbeats at various tempos.
The Upright Bass sample set is rounded off by snaps,
noises and various other effects.​

This hand-made instrument with its balanced,

The single notes include various short notes (including Bartok, étouffé and hammer-ons),
long notes (including flautando, ponticello, Bartok, étouffé, natural and artificial harmonics),
legatos, glissandos, repetitions, tremolos, trills, bends and effects such as harp, golpe,
tambora, scratches and chord mutes.
The broad range of chords in all keys and various playing positions
are offered in the categories of regular, rasgueado, rasgueado rolls and arpeggios,
in ringing, secco and stopped variants.
All of them are easy to access and combine,
using key switches to navigate through the color-coded structure.​

Overdrive – Distorted Electric Guitar
Overdrive features distorted tube sound recordings of a legendary Steve Vai signature seven-string guitar,
played through a Brunetti XL II R-EVO amp head and a Marshall 1960TV 4x12" cabinet.
Along with various short and sustained notes (with or without vibrato, or whammy bar),
you get legatos, slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, repetitions, tremolos, trills, grace notes,
natural and artificial harmonics as well as a large variety of scale runs.
A special treat are the various flavors of chords,
especially the mighty power chords for those about to rock!
What’s more, you can make some noise with loads of effects
such as feedbacks, scratches, and e-bowed notes.
All notes start at B0 on the lower end,
extending the range of a standard guitar down a 4th.​
