The Bansuri is a side-blown bamboo flute, with six finger-holes,
that originates from the Indian subcontinent.
It is made from an untreated piece of bamboo cane
that is tightly wrapped with silk or nylon threads.
The instrument is associated with the Hindu God Krishna,
who is often depicted playing it.
This Synchron World Winds Pack includes three bansuris in the keys of E, D, and A.
Typical playing techniques include a characteristic vibrato, bends, portamentos,
and falls at the end of a note or phrase.
All three bansuris included in this Pack were played by multi-instrumentalist,
folk instruments expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova.
She played in many orchestras, among them the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna,
the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and Tonkünstler Orchestra,
toured Europe as a solo flutist with the late Ennio Morricone,
and played at esteemed festivals from Salzburger Festspiele to Hollywood in Vienna.
Having performed on countless film scores at Synchron Stage Vienna,
Veronika feels very much at home on the large Stage A
and marvels at the exceptional acoustics of this scoring stage
that contribute substantially to the overall sound of each instrument.
To capture the spectacular ambience of “Stage A” of Synchron Stage,
our engineers employed seven phase-coherent microphone configurations
to provide a broad range of room options.
All signals are available as separate channels in the mixer section of the Vienna Synchron Player.
A wide variety of presets offer perfect mixer settings
and serve as great starting points for your own sound creations.
Under the Content tab you’ll find a list of each bansuri’s natural sampled tones,
which are diatonic as opposed to chromatic.
Nonetheless, this software instrument provides chromatic keyboard mappings for every instrument.
In addition, legatos were sampled chromatically.
If you want your composition to be played by a bansuri player,
please bear in mind that not everything you write and play on the keyboard
may be possible to perform for a musician,
due to the non-chromatic nature of each instrument.

The dizi is a Chinese transverse flute made of bamboo.
A special feature of this instrument is the additional hole between the embouchure and the finger holes.
A membrane with fine wrinkles, called “dimo”,
is glued over this hole, and it resonates similarly to a kazoo.
The louder the dizi is played, the more the dimo resonates,
making the instrument brighter and louder,
and adding harmonics that give the tone a buzzing, nasal quality.

The duduk is an ancient Armenian double reed woodwind instrument made of aged apricot wood.
Its warm, soft and slightly nasal timbre is not unlike the English Horn or a softly played tenor saxophone,
but given the ability to shape the sound with air pressure, vibrato
and embellishments it’s the wind instrument that most resembles the human voice.
UNESCO proclaimed the Armenian duduk and its music as a “Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity”.
The instrument was made known to a broader audience through film music with movies
and shows such as Gladiator, Avatar, Syriana, Game of Thrones, and many more.
This Synchron World Winds Pack includes a duduk in the key of Bb and a bass duduk in D.
The typical vibrato that’s created with the cheeks and ornaments
such as grace notes contribute to the distinct and expressive sound of the instrument.
Both 杜杜克 included in this Pack were played by multi-instrumentalist,
folk instruments expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova.

The gajdica is an archaic instrument that was preserved in Lipany,
a rural village in the Šariš region of Slovakia.
The single-reed instrument consists of a wooden pipe made of hazel, elder, cherry, plum or maple
with a cow horn attached to the lower end.
There are six holes on the top part of the melodic reed,
and a seventh one on the back side.
It was originally used to play short pastoral motifs and shepherd songs of the Šariš region,
for shepherding signals, and as an accompaniment to the unique shepherds’ culture dance.
点击展开...
The sound of the Gajdica is penetrating, rich and intense.
Because of its playing style, with circular breathing and accents to melodic notes,
the gajdica is similar to a one-piped bagpipe.
A special, very quickly played form of vibrato gives the instrument a unique character.
The gajdica was played by multi-instrumentalist,
folk instruments expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova.
She played in many orchestras, among them the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna,
the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and Tonkünstler Orchestra,

The Hulusi is a Chinese end-blown free-reed pipe with a gourd wind chamber.
It originally came from the Dai-zu or Dai (Thai) people of southern China.
The hulusi usually consists of three bamboo pipes –
one melody pipe with finger holes and two drone pipes
that are often tuned to an octave and a fifth.
The sound of the hulusi is hauntingly beautiful, but fairly soft.
The Dai men would play it to express their love to women,
while others often played the hulusi in the fields
when taking a break from planting or harvesting.
The instrument achieves expressiveness through its vibrato technique.
The Hulusi was played by multi-instrumentalist,
folk instruments expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova.
She played in many orchestras, among them the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna,

The koncovka is a Slovak end-blown overtone flute
without finger holes, most commonly made from hazel.
It is sometimes called the little sister of the fujara.
Both instruments were used by shepherds.
The larger flute, the fujara, was considered the instrument of the herd leader and chief shepherd.
The smaller koncovka was rather played by his assistants.
Without any finger holes or keys, the notes are produced solely
by overblowing and by opening and closing the lower opening of the flute.
Pitch is determined by air pressure and therefore volume,
the lowest notes are also the quietest.
Due to the limitation to the overtone scale,
a legato patch based on scales is not possible.
Instead, the library offers a wide range of phrases, patterns,
and very rhythmical loops that allow you to create captivating performances.
Effect playing techniques such as overblowing staccatos,
crescendos and diminuendos, as well as note releases,
add another exciting layer of expressive possibilities.
The koncovka was played by multi-instrumentalist,
folk instruments expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova.
She played in many orchestras, among them the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna,

The Shakuhachi is a Japanese and ancient Chinese end-blown flute
that is made of bamboo. Its five finger holes are tuned to a minor pentatonic scale with no half-tones,
but using techniques called meri and kari in
which the blowing angle is adjusted the pitch can be bent downward and upward, respectively.
The shakuhachi’s unique sound is unmistakable,
characterized by its emotive breathiness.
Two types of vibrato add variety and expression to the long notes.
Typical elements are grace notes, bends and a very distinctive attack when playing a note,
as well as expressive playing techniques
such as dynamic trills and distinctive grace notes.
The Shakuhachi was played by multi-instrumentalist,
folk instruments expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova.

Tin whistles, also called penny whistles due to their affordable price,
originated in the 19th century in Great Britain and Ireland.
The six-holed woodwind instruments are especially popular in Irish,
Scottish and Celtic music.
Despite their high register, the sound of the tin whistle can be quite soft and lyrical,
but they can also soar above the other instruments, with assertiveness and agility.
This Synchron World Winds Pack includes six tin whistles in the keys of G, D, C, A, F, and Low D.
Typical playing techniques include slides and ornaments such as cuts, taps, rolls and grace notes,
which have all been sampled in great detail
and are now easily accessible in the clearly laid out patch structure of the Vienna Synchron Player.
All six tin whistles were played by multi-instrumentalist,
folk instruments expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova.

The zurna is a double-reed woodwind instrument with a conically bored tube and a large bell.
It is widely played in central Eurasia, Western Asia and parts of North Africa.
The intent of the zurna, to cut through the noise of large outdoor crowds,
makes it a very loud instrument, with a piercing and nasal sound.
It is traditionally used at weddings, sporting events, folk dances,
and similar ceremonial activities.
The zurna is made of hardwood of fruit trees such as plum or apricot.
The specific zurna in G used for the recordings of this library
has seven medium sized finger holes on top and an eight hole on the back side.
The zurna was played by multi-instrumentalist,
folk instruments expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova.
