The Drinking Piano is a fat-bottomed monster upright with a classic beer hall sound, evoking images of the roaring 20s and pre-war 30s.
It's got all of the brutal wear and tear that you'd expect from a hundred-year-old instrument that has been played hard and put away wet, night after night.
With a fat, wide and close sound, it puts you right on the bench with the yellow, cracked ivories under your fingers.
It was recorded right up against the strings in a small, slightly reflective hall, giving it all the presence of a dry studio recording with just a hint of live ambiance.

There’s a special quality to fast scales performed by an ensemble of string players.
It’s the concurrent presence of precision and minimal random deviations in a well-rehearsed ensemble
that creates the smoothness and vividness of string ensemble runs.
So to increase liveliness and authenticity in your tracks,
it may be better in some cases to use pre-recorded runs than creating a string run out of single notes.
That’s why we recorded octave runs performed by an ensemble of 14 violin players in all scales
and modes that are now available in the well-organized patch structure of the Vienna Synchron Player.
The ensemble was recorded in our second studio, the Silent Stage...
SOUNDS OF KNIGHTS AND TAVERNS
Our first phrase library focusing on plucked instruments,
MEDIEVAL PHRASES LUTE & THEORBO brings you into a world of classic imagination,
booming with bards and taverns, questing knights, and roving robber barons and bandits.
In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, the bards in courts and taverns constantly needed new ways to inspire their audiences.
People looked back to the ancients for their inspiration, whether in science or medicine, or in music.
The Ancient Greeks tapped into the divine in their epic recitations accompanied by the lyre and kithara.
It was only natural that during the late medieval times – when all things...
Pulsar Massive is an emulation of the Manley Massive Passive* EQ that is present in almost every mastering studio in the world.
This machine was designed as a synthesis of the best passive equalizers of the last 70 years, and several distinct features in the design give it an absolutely unique sound.
First of all, the fully parallel topology of the EQ gives completely different kind of response to a digital equalizer with the same settings.
A parallel equalizer’s tonal corrections aren’t cumulative, but tend to interact with each other, resulting in a more intuitive and fluid way to shape the frequency spectrum.
The Sound of Thunder
The Lowdown Bass Synthesizer recreates the super-fat, room-rattling sounds of the most legendary dual-oscillator bass pedal synth ever made.
Heard on countless prog-rock and new wave tracks in the 70s and 80s, this floor pedal monster comes to the desktop for the very first time.
From the dual “constant-beat” oscillators to the girthy ladder filter, DSP wizard Mark Barton (MRB) has modeled every aspect of the original with exceptional accuracy.

A few days ago, we updated our Al Schmitt plugin to version 1.4.
When we sat down with Al at an early stage to discuss the overall idea behind the plugin,
we agreed upon eight distinguished profiles with him.
Every profile was tweaked and fine-tuned, ensuring it would represent Al Schmitt as we knew him.
Many listening and feedback sessions followed, both with Al and his team.
As a result, we included six profiles at the plugin launch:
Vocal, piano, bass, brass, strings, and mix (bus).
Approved and checked by Al Schmitt himself.
With his sudden passing, we needed to regroup and figure out how to release the last two profiles.
After many back-an-forth's and consultations with his...
Since the late 2010s, rubber bridge guitars have been multiplying throughout indie rock music,
even making notable appearances in pop music.
Although people have been using various approaches throughout history to give guitars a more muted sound,
the concept of using a rubber bridge is thanks to Reuben Cox, luthier and owner of Old Style Guitar Shop in Los Angeles, California.
His unique addition of a rubber bridge tastefully dampens the guitar’s sustain,
giving notes a prominent/plucky attack with a swift, yet pure, decay.
Due to the naturally quiet volume of these guitars, which are commonly smaller sized parlor guitars, a high output pickup is typically installed for...
